Reagent-free portable COD, TOC and BOD probes

Reagent-free portable COD, TOC and BOD probes
  • The portable probe is ready to measure COD, BOD and TOC continuously and without reagents

The new BILANZ QUALITAT® portable probe can be immersed in water to measure TOC, BOD and COD without reagents*. The probe can be immersed by hand for portable measurements at several locations, allowing quick mapping of how the process is evolving. It can be used for spot measurements or left measuring continuously for up to 48 hours, either submerged, suspended from a float (for example, in a river) or fixed in an open channel for continuous measurement. It also features a light shield to counter ambient light interference and has air vents to ensure the probe always measures in water. It can be configured with a path length of 20 mm or 50 mm, depending on water quality and measurement requirements. It is available in a range of materials (plastic, aluminium and stainless steel). Its interface is a modern icon-based colour touchscreen that makes taking measurements as quick and simple as possible.

Data review

The portable instrument can store a large amount of process data, display trends graphically and easily transfer Excel-compatible CSV files via USB or another output (on request).

Advanced optics and electronics

Long-life UV LEDs ensure an extended service life and avoid the long warm-up times normally associated with mercury-lamp analysers.

Benefits

The instrument is efficient and quickly pays for itself, because it:

  • Cuts measurement time from 2 hours to 10 seconds.
  • Uses no reagents for measurement, which means considerable savings.
  • Needs no thermoreactor.
  • Leaves no reagent waste to manage, as it uses none.
  • Is portable, so it can be used in different parts of the same treatment plant and even at different plants, improving the return on investment.
  • Maps various water bodies quickly and easily, both clean and dirty water.
  • Measures continuously and logs data for 48 hours, providing more reliable process data than a spot sample.
  • Allows groups of small treatment plants to be managed and monitored quickly and at low cost.
  • Simplifies discharge monitoring, which until now has had to do without online COD measurement because of its difficulty and high cost.
  • Can be calibrated for up to 4 different water types with up to 16 points, traceable to the widely used official sealed-tube method.

Graphs and data tables can be viewed and exported to CSV.

The instrument can be ordered with 48-hour batteries and left measuring for that period as if it were a continuous analyser; the data are then downloaded via its USB port.

There are many more applications, which you can discuss with BILANZ QUALITAT®; we will be delighted to help.

*Measurement requires routine calibration against standard procedures, as the chemistry of the water matrix may change over time.
